Created from conversations between Morton Birnbaum and Florynce Kennedy, "sanism" refers to discrimination against a person because of the way in which they perceive the world around them. Birnbaum argues that: "incarceration by the state in a mental hospital without proper treatment is a deprivation of liberty without due process" (Birnbaum, 1960).
