Hundreds of Indigenous people are attacked by British troops in the Abenaki village of Norridgewock (also known as Maine). An estimated 80-150 Abenaki people are slaughtered during this massacre. In recent years, the town of Skowhegan, which is located close to the site of this massacre, has been debating the appropriateness of its high school "Indian" mascot.
