American Social Hygiene Association formed.

The association is formed through a merger of the American Purity Alliance and the National Vigilance Campaign. Its intention is to decrease the number of sexually transmitted illnesses in the U.S.

The society acknowledges a link between the spread of disease and "the Victorian Era’s obsession with purity and society’s refusal to talk about sex" (SIECUS, 2021), and so advocates for sex education.
