This revolt by enslaved people occurs in the territory of Louisiana over three days. At its peak, 400 to 500 enslaved Black men and women fight against plantation owners. Andry's Rebellion is inspired by the Haitian revolt, which ended in 1804 with the former colony gaining independence from French rule. It was led by Toussaint Louverture, who became a symbol of resistance. After the rebellion, authorities tighten the restrictions governing the activities of free Black people in Louisiana, and frees those who supported the government in crushing the uprising.
