Hover over the abbreviated filter tags in the blue boxes to see the complete name of the filter, or click a filter to display all the data with this tag. During the Great Depression, Mexican immigrants are blamed for the increase in unemployment. Newspapers and other campaigns link Mexican immigrants with the introduction of marijuana. As a result, a wave of research is funded linking the use of marijuana with violence, crime, and other "social dangers." Campaigns featured in newsprint and other media make the racist link between marijuana use and "racially inferior" communities.
