Benedict Lust publishes the Universal Naturopathic Encyclopedia.

During this period, philanthropists are beginning to steer the medical system towards pharmaceuticals as the core of medicine.

This encyclopedia becomes the primary text for "drugless therapy," or what Lust calls "natural therapies." Lust also opposes germ theory, vaccinations, and vivisection, and weaves these beliefs into his teachings about naturopathy.
