Pulse oximeters, as they are currently manufactured, do not work well on people with darker skin. Known to be a problem since their early creation, the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) finally issues a warning that pulse oximeters may not provide accurate results for people with darker skin tones in 2021.
