A Mississippi court dismisses George v. State, where an enslaved adult Black man, named George, is charged with having sexually assaulted an enslaved Black girl, under the age of 10. The court rules that “[t]he crime of rape does not exist in this State between African Slaves.” Also in the report: “Their intercourse is promiscuous” and “is left to be regulated by their owners.”
