To filter by a particular topic and see a smaller section of the data, make a selection on the dropdown “Filters” menu or click “Search” to do a keyword search. Hover over the abbreviated filter tags in the blue boxes to see the complete name of the filter, or click a filter to display all the data with this tag. Darwin argues that species evolve through natural selection, which is the process by which individuals with traits that are adapted to survival in their environment are more likely to survive and pass those traits onto their offspring.

While Darwin himself will not weigh in on the application of his theory to human societies until years later, others will immediately begin developing ideas of "social Darwinism," which will be used to form the foundation of the eugenics movement.
