The story receives significant national attention when Louis Boy, who is incarcerated at Sing Sing prison, agrees to participate in a blood transfusion experiment in an attempt to save an eight-year-old girl.

Mr. Boy's blood does not save the girl, and she dies two days later. Boy had originally been sentenced to death, but his sentence is changed to life in prison. He will later be released due to the innumerable medical experiments he participated in while incarcerated.
