Bayer introduces diethyl-barbituric acid, which is used to support "highly-agitated patients," who were previously unable to receive other forms of treatment. This sedative and hypnotic is used for patients with neurological and psychological symptoms, such as epileptic seizures, psychosis, insomnia, and "severe emotional repression." This drug begins to open up the field of intravenous anesthesia for minor procedures.
