The New York Hydropathic and Physiological School becomes the first natural healing medical school where a student can earn a medical doctorate in four years, which also serves to contribute to the ongoing professionalization of the field. It will be one of the first medical schools to admit women. The founder, Dr. Russell Thacher Trall, will write the first vegan cookbook in the U.S.
