The first successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) of a human egg is performed by Dr. John Rock and Dr. Miriam Menkin. While the egg is fertilized, it doesn't result in a pregnancy.

IVF is when eggs are removed from ovaries and are then fertilized with sperm outside of the body. Then, after embryos have formed they are placed back into the body to gestate.
