Health officials are blocked from removing corpses from private homes by enraged groups. While the cholera riots are even more frequent across Europe and Russia, they emerge in waves in New York City during each wave of the epidemic. In addition to blaming Asian people for the spread of cholera, the riots also begin to focus on Irish immigrants, blaming the new immigrants for this first wave.
