This diagnosis, given for a wide range of emotional, mental, and physical expressions, targets white women who seek higher education or choose to abstain from having children in particular. This diagnosis strategy draws a picture of white women as fragile and vulnerable and different from Black and Indigenous women, whose bodies are increasingly used for medical experimentation.
