Immigration Reform and Control Act passed.

Date: 1986

IM
LLP
LAB

The act allows most unauthorized immigrants (mainly from Latin America) currently living in the United States to apply for documented status. It creates sanctions against employers who "knowingly" hire unauthorized immigrants. In addition, the act increases funding for immigrant policing by expanding border control and tightens admissions eligibility.
