In the book John Money recommends castration and what he calls "feminizing treatments" for David Reimer, an infant twin who received a botched circumcision at 8 months old.

David was raised as a girl until he learned of Money's intervention. He then began living as a boy, but for his entire life, suffered immense depression and emotional distress as the result of medical interventions he received without consent as an infant.
