The clinic, which will become infamous for its nonconsensual surgeries on intersex infants and children, is also the only institution in the U.S. in the late 1960s and 70s to regularly provide "sex reassignment" surgeries to transgender adults who choose to medically transition.

Some patients will criticize the clinic's intake and eligibility process, saying that they only approve surgeries for "hyper-feminine" trans women and who are treated in a "hyper-sexualized" way (Witkin, 2014).
