In the Youngs Rubber case, two condom manufacturers, in fighting over market competition, provide the foundation for condom manufacturing to be seen as a legitimate business bound up by the same rules of ethics and competition as other forms of business.

Prior to this, condom manufacturing was seen as part of the unregulated sex industry–something "too perverse" for actual regulations and standards.
