During the last few decades of legalized enslavement in Canada, enslaved Africans outnumber enslaved Indigenous people. This is mostly due to Southern Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution and bringing enslaved Africans along with them. It is documented that the supposed last remaining enslaved Indigenous person in Lower Canada is "donated" to a Montreal hospital for research and study in 1821. We do not know the name of this Indigenous woman.
