Maryland enacts a Workers' Compensation Law.

Date: 1902

LAB
LLP

The law is intended to provide support for workers who are injured on the job. Two other states will soon follow. A few years later, Maryland will declare the law unconstitutional because the law: "deprived an employer of its property rights without due process of law in cases in which the employer would be required to compensate a worker for injuries that were not caused by the employer’s negligence" (Online Safety Trainer, n.d.).
