Salsa Soul Sisters, which is the first Black lesbian organization; Black and White Gay Men Together (BWMT); the National Coalition of Black Lesbians and Gays; Dykes Against Racism Everywhere (DARE); and other organizations mobilize in response to a police raid on Blues Bar, which is a predominantly Black gay bar in Manhattan.

The raid is emblematic of rising police brutality against LGBTQ+ folks in the city, and the uprisings lead to an increase of organizing against police surveillance and brutality by People of Color organizers.
