The 1950s are often called the "Golden Age of Medical Advancement." Many more medications become available to treat a range of illnesses, including infections, glaucoma, and arthritis. Also, new vaccines become available that prevent childhood diseases, including polio. In addition, birth control pills, heart transplants, and chemotherapy are all developed during this time.
