Date: 1922
A systematic review of articles published between 1922 and 2008 will find that during the 1920s, beliefs in "inherent" racial differences in lung capacity begin to become more widespread. Little consideration is given to social determinants, such as racial discrimination, occupational exposures, higher rates of incarceration, increased exposure to environmental toxins, lack of access to healthcare, and poverty.
