Franklin D. Roosevelt, who experienced partial paralysis as a result of polio, founds the National Foundation of Infantile Paralysis, which will later become known as the "March of Dimes."

The organization will later shift to focusing on "birth defects and disorders associated with premature birth," becoming one of the largest fundraising charities in the U.S. It will shape the national conversation on ability and disability by being focused around the concept of cure.
