The Philippine-American War begins in order to stop the Filipino movement for independence against the United States. After the Spanish-American War, the Philippines are ceded from Spain to the U.S., which sparks nationalist sentiments among Indigenous Filipino people led by Emilio Aguinaldo. This sparks a three-year war in which as many as 200,000 Filipinx civilians are killed, in addition to over 20,000 Filipinx fighters.
