President Theodore Roosevelt calls for the controlled breeding of Anglo-Saxons.
Date: 1903
Warning of "willful sterility" in comparison to the fertility of immigrants, Roosevelt speaks repeatedly about the "race suicide" of Anglo-Saxon/English descendants who seek pleasure instead of work.
He argues that Anglo-Saxons are "in danger" of being eliminated, due to their use of birth control and failure to keep up baby-for-baby. He demands that Anglo-Saxons produce as many babies as possible to increase their numbers. In particular, he warns of their population being outnumbered by immigrant workers from Southern and Eastern Europe, as well as other poor white ethnic groups outlined in the popular writing of Edward Ross.
