Zuni, Hopi, Tiwa, Tewa, Towa, Tano, and Keres-speaking Pueblo people take control of Santa Fe and drive the Spanish colonial presence out of New Mexico with heavy casualties on the Spanish side, including 21 of the 33 Franciscan missionaries located there. The region will remain autonomous under Native control until 1692 despite multiple non-violent attempts at peace treaties and trade agreements.
