Redoshi was 12 when she was kidnapped from her village and forced onto the ship Clotilda. Forced to work on an Alabama plantation, she stayed on as a worker after Emancipation, raising her children and teaching them what she had been taught as a child. She lived until age 89, and is thought to be the last survivor of the trans-Atlantic Slave trade.
