R.W. Shufeldt publishes a paper outlining breeding strategies to "prevent" homosexuality.
Date: 1905
Shufeldt writes "The Medico-Legal Consideration of Perverts and Inverts" after he studies groups of men who identify as homosexual. He does so with the intention of understanding and then building a strategy for "eradicating" homosexuality. His intent is to "protect" whiteness, as he identifies homosexuality as something that specifically "plagues" white people.
Shufeldt calls for greater study, as he recognizes that the greatest challenge in "eradicating" homosexuality is how thoroughly it is hidden. He asserts a two-pronged strategy: teaching about homosexuality to make it visible, and then working to "eradicate" it in white people in order to "save" the white race.
