Hover over the abbreviated filter tags in the blue boxes to see the complete name of the filter, or click a filter to display all the data with this tag. Truth served as a nurse for the Dumont family while she was enslaved. After she escapes, she works with the National Freedman's Relief Association in Washington, D.C. There, Truth fights for nursing education and other forms of formal education for Black women, as well as improved sanitary conditions at the Freedman hospitals.
