State v. Baez charges Nellie Baez with "risk of injury to child" for cocaine use while pregnant in Connecticut.

Date: 1989

LEG
OC

Nellie Baez, a 20-year-old Latina woman, is arrested for "drug possession" and "risk of injury to a child" for possession of cocaine while pregnant.

The police claim the charges will be elevated to manslaughter if the fetus dies. However, both charges are later dropped, although Baez does receive a one-year sentence for "tampering with evidence" for allegedly swallowing a quarter ounce of cocaine during the arrest.
