The American Medical Association discontinues its practice of listing Black physicians as “colored."

African-American physicians are no longer listed as "colored" in the American Medical Association's (AMA) American Medical Directory. The AMA's House of Delegates also adopts a policy discouraging racial discrimination in constituent society membership, but puts no accountability structures in place to respond to it when it occurs.
