The American Medical Association's (AMA) first official act is to begin to establish a system of licensing for medical practice. Within the first year, bills are proposed to stop homeopathy, and to end midwifery, contraception, and the right to choose in state legislatures. The AMA defines its goals as standardizing care through uniform education and testing, and increasing physician incomes, with a focus on medical ethics and improving public health.
