In response to fears that the United States will attempt to annex the British North American colonies, which are stoked by proposals of invasion published in U.S. newspapers, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada join together to form the Dominion of Canada. Indigenous peoples are not invited to the formal discussions about forming the new nation.
