The Carceral Feminist Conference on decriminalizing sex work takes place.

Date: 1971

SW
RES

Held at Chelsea High School in New York City, the conference is: "one of the earliest confrontations between sex workers and feminists who [have] never worked in the sex industry. It [does] not bode well for future alliances" (Chateauvert, 2015).

The debate focuses on the decriminalization of sex work and the criminalization of "Johns." A group of sex workers storm the conference protesting how sex work is being portrayed as a form of sexual coercion.
