As two colonized communities, the Choctaw Nation, who recently had traveled the Trail of Tears to what is now called Oklahoma, see the Irish people as individuals forcibly abandoned and in need of aid. They raise what would be $5,000 in today's money to send to starving Irish families at the height of the potato famine.
