The diagnosis of "ego-dystonic homosexuality" is removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
Date: 1987
The diagnosis of "ego-dystonic homosexuality" was included in the previous Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of "Mental Disorders" (DSM-III) as a political compromise between those fighting to remove homosexuality from the DSM and those who believed it should remain.
The diagnosis, which has no scientific basis, is removed in 1987.
