The first documented traveling carnival.

Date: 1899

CCMS

The Canton Carnival Company opens its first show in Chillicothe, Ohio, on May 30, 1899. This starts a relationship between traveling carnivals and social service organizations, like the Kiwanis, and the Elks and the Moose Lodges, which use the carnivals to fundraise. In order to increase profits, carnivals begin to organize "sideshows," often including "Indian shows" and "freak shows."
