The National Black Gay and Lesbian Leadership Forum is launched.

Founded by Phill Wilson and Ruth Waters, the forum is a national convergence for the intersectional voices of the Black LGBTQ+ Community.

The forum will go on to lead the National Black and Lesbian Leadership Conference and AIDS Institute in February 1989 in Los Angeles, California. The conference becomes a prominent gathering until the forum disbands in 2003.
