The Nurse Society of Philadelphia is established to educate women on maternity and postpartum care.

Through the development of nurse societies in major cities, nurses begin to develop practices of home visits and public health nursing in an effort to provide support to families and individuals living in poverty. At this point in time, these societies only cater to white nurses, as Black nurses are excluded.
