Parke-Davis' chloromycetin is hailed as the new "wonder drug." It is used as treatment against wider varieties of bacterias than penicillin and other antibiotics.

Several doctors are persuaded to give it to their children, until multiple patients die of blood cancers and disorders. Seventy-five percent of the cases of aplastic anemia resulting from the administration of chloromycetin are fatal.
