Five people diagnosed with leprosy (three who are Latinx, and two who are Chinese) are brought to Penikese for forced quarantine. The colony will house close to 40 people over its years of operation. Prior to being quarantined, every single one of the residents was living in poverty and speaking little to no English, were not provided any interpretation.
