The "Progressive Group" of the Medical Society of the County of New York forms.
Date: 1938
Led by cardiologist Ernst P. Boas, this group will later rename itself the "Physicians Forum" in 1941.
The group, which is composed of physicians, pushes their local medical society, as well as national communities of physicians, to consider the potential of single-payer national health insurance. For 25 years, the Physicians Forum members will engage in activism and author publications that are intended to convince their colleagues of the importance of healthcare access for all.
