Date: 1889
The Marine Hospital Service begins to organize a mobile force of health professionals that can be moved around the country as needed. Over the next hundred years, the Marine Hospital Service will transition from being comprised solely of physicians to including veterinarians, dentists, medical researchers, environmental health specialists, dietitians, engineers, and more. The Marine Hospital Service will also begin focusing on providing medical testing for immigrants in this period.
