The task force is established to respond to the potential "security threat" of bioterrorism using Lassa fever, rather than the goal of combating the disease within West Africa.

They will do nothing to invest in basic health infrastructure in the countries where Lassa fever is present, despite having an influx of biodefense dollars that could be used for this purpose.
