In addition to seizing land for sugar plantations and implementing many new economic regulations, the U.S. will outlaw traditional Hawai'ian healing practices. In 1905, they forbid kahuna (traditional healers) from practicing with the threat of fines or imprisonment. Kahuna will be forbidden to practice by law until 1973.
