The Aluminum Ore Company brings in 3,000 Black workers to break a strike. Three thousand white union members march in protest and begin to attack Black families in the neighborhood. Two white police officers are killed, and white community members go on a rampage, burning the Black neighborhoods and attacking residents. Two hundred Black people are killed, and 6,000 lose their homes.
