Contrary to many of Western anthropology's theories, evidence of human habitation on Turtle Island exists since long before the Bering land bridge migration. Traditional oral histories place communities on Turtle Island at least 50,000 years back. This timeline does not focus on the thousands of years of Indigenous history before colonial contact, but on the impact of colonization and Indigenous resistance to this impact.
