A report released on legal gender recognition for trans people acknowledges forced sterilization.
Date: 2014
The Open Society Foundations releases a report on: "some of the world’s most progressive and rights-based laws and policies that enable trans people to change their gender identity on official documents" (OSF, 2014).
In this report, they also acknowledge the impacts of the least progressive policies. In several countries, and some areas of the United States, trans people must still undergo full sterilization in order to legally change their gender. In some cases, trans men are coerced to use Depo-Provera to decrease their estrogen, despite the health risks of the drug. This is a clear infringement on reproductive rights, and has worrying implications for trans and gender non-conforming folk.
